The international food retailer, Delhaize Group, which operates 2545 stores in seven countries in the US, Europe and Asia, has published its first Corporate Responsibility Report, entitled 'A Healthy Approach to Life'.
The report describes how the Group has contributed to the health and wellbeing of its customers, associates and the communities in which it operates through its activities in three key areas: Products, People and Planet. Within each of these three areas, the report focuses on the Group's strategic priorities. These include:
1 - food safety and health (product)
2 - associate development (people)
3 - energy conservation (planet).
Delhaize Group, which is based in Belgium and group-wide employs 138,000 people, says the three priorities will lead the Group's CR strategy and determine where it wants to excel. Key performance indicators, additional data and future commitments are shown throughout the report, which aims to be an inventory of all CR initiatives.
The document, which covers data and information for the calendar year 2007 for all Delhaize Group's operating companies, has been compiled using the Global Reporting Initiative's G3 guidelines. Business for Social Responsibility advised on its content and metrics, and provided a review statement.
